Why take cello lessons?
The sound of the cello is said to be very close to the sound of the human voice. Perhaps for this reason, many composers such as Bach and Haydn have written works specifically for the instrument. Even though we often associate the cello with classical music, these days cello is heard in pop, rock, and hip hop as well.
In your cello lessons you can learn the basics of playing the cello. Your teacher can show you how to hold the bow properly with your right hand, and how to apply pressure to get a clean sound. Lessons will also address proper left hand technique including positions and the production of vibrato.
Intermediate and advanced students may be interested in particular pieces or musical genres. Students who have upcoming auditions can feel free to take some lessons to help prepare.
How much does a cello cost?
Even an inexpensive beginner’s cello will cost about $1000.00 (to say nothing of the bow, which will cost at least several hundred dollars). For this reason we recommend renting your first instrument. A cello is also a larger instrument. Many younger players will not be albe to play a full size cello and will be fitted with a smaller 1/2 or 3/4 size. Rental agreements usually allow you to upgrade your instrument as your child grows and a portion of the rental cost can often be applied toward a later purchase.
