A clarinet is a woodwind instrument with a beautiful, round sound. Clarinets have the one of the largest ranges of pitch of all musical instruments, which makes it one of the most interesting and challenging instruments to play.
One questions we get from new players (or parents of new players) is if it’s better to buy or rent your first Clarinet?
A quality Clarinet can cost $3,000 or more. That’s a lot to invest if you are not 100% sure that you will be playing this instrument for a very long time to come.
While there are low cost models advertised online and sometimes in discount stores, low-priced clarinets are not always the best choice. There are many really bad brands on the market – some don’t even work. So beware of purchasing a cheapie no-name on the internet or from a big box discount store.
For these reasons, we recommend renting your first instrument. Rentals often include maintenance and accident coverage which provides an additional level of peace of mind.
